Throughout the summer, here in Kent, as I’m sure it is in most parts of the country, we see a huge number of football tournaments and events happen to both celebrate youth football in the county, but also offer a chance for rising stars and local teams to all compete against each other for the ultimate crown of the tournament champions.
This summer, as Half Way Line, we spent some time at several events with our ‘speed challenge’ and our popup stall and absolutely loved it!
Speed Challenge
With competitive vibes at a high at these tournaments, we thought we’d increase the tension and add in a little more competitive spirit to the day.
We brought along one of our popup goals, a bunch of balls, range markers and the all important speed gun, to measure how fast a players shot was.
💥 Fact – Kent FA youth referree’s have faster shots than Kent youth team coaches!
⏱ Over the course of the summer, we recorded an average shot speed of 65-75kmph from most young players who took part over the age of 12.
⏱ At the older age (16-18) we recorded an average of 85kmph
⏱ And currently, our Half Way Line speed challenge record stands at 124kmph from one of the Kent FA youth referree’s
Special mentions to these two legends who smashed their age groups on their tournament days and managed to bag themselves the winners haul of a custom print of their choice, and a brand new mitre gold football.
Whats the fastest shot in football history?
Well, I’m glad you asked. According to Total Football Analysis, the fastest recorded shot is 211 kmph recorded by Robby Heberson in 1986.
Thats just ridiculous, and I can’t understand how thats even possible.
According to TFA, Playing for Sporting CP is where he made the record-setting 211 km/h power shot against Associacao Naval de Maio.
Whats the fastest shot in the premier league?
Well this is more like it – Steven Reid recorded a 189kmph shot (about 117mph!) against Wigan for Blackburn Rovers. Incredible thunderbolt
